Rio Brazos Master Naturalist - ANC Bird Walks

Acton Nature Center Bird Walks

Bird walks are currently being conducted at the Acton Nature Center (ANC) on the first Saturday of each month and on weekend days of the Great Backyard Bird Count occurring in mid-February of each year. Walks are led by Rio Brazos Master Naturalist (RBMN), Billy Teels and everyone is invited to attend, regardless of age or expertise. Participants are encouraged to bring their binoculars and field guides and join in the fun. In addition to providing an interactive experience with fellow “birders,” the walks are designed to generate data for a “living bird list” for the ANC. The monthly walks have been going on since February of 2008 with nearly 90 species inventoried thus far. Generally, the monthly walks tally between 15 and 20 species. Time will be taken with the group to discuss field marks, songs and calls, bird behavior, and other identifying characteristics. For those interested, walks start shortly after dawn (time varies) at the Acton Nature Center parking lot on every first Saturday. The time of the walks will be posted on the RBMN and ANC websites. We look forward to seeing you there!
